Some Things take time
There’s a quiet reminder that keeps coming up for me lately: some things take time.
Not because you’re behind, and not because you’re doing something wrong but because the things that matter most are meant to be built slowly, intentionally, and with care.
In this episode, Digging Up Dreams, I had the chance to sit down with Alicia Cherrett, founder of The Children’s Learning Place, and our conversation felt like a reflection of that idea. When you look at what Alicia has created, supporting families, leading a team of over 200, and growing something that touches so many lives, it’s easy to focus on the outcome. But what stood out most to me was the journey it took to get there.
She spoke about balance, and not in a polished or perfect way, but in a real one. The kind that requires constant attention. The kind that asks you to show up fully in different roles, leader, partner, parent, and to keep adjusting as life shifts around you. And what I appreciated most was her honesty in that. That balance isn’t something you arrive at one day. It’s something you keep choosing.
Because when you’re building something meaningful, there are going to be seasons where things feel stretched. Where your time is pulled in different directions. Where you’re learning as you go. And in those moments, it can be easy to feel like you should have it all figured out already.
But maybe the point isn’t to rush through it. Maybe the point is to stay in it.
To trust that the time you’re putting in the relationships you’re building, the lessons you’re learning, the way you’re growing is shaping something deeper than what’s visible on the surface.
That’s what this conversation reminded me of. That the journey matters just as much as the outcome.
That the in-between moments, the ones that don’t always feel big, are often the ones doing the most work within us.
And that when you allow yourself to move through it with intention, something lasting begins to take shape.
Alicia’s story is a reflection of that. Not just what she’s built, but how she’s built it with patience, with partnership, and with a commitment to creating something that serves others while still honoring her own life.
And maybe that’s the takeaway. That it’s okay to take your time.
That growth doesn’t have to be fast to be meaningful.
And that the things you’re building whether it’s a career, a family, or a version of yourself are unfolding exactly as they’re meant to.
Because some things take time, and that’s not a setback. That’s the beauty of it.
