Healthy Lungs, Healthy Communities
Some causes impact us all, whether we realize it or not. Clean air, access to healthcare, and lung health are things every person depends on, which is why I was honored to serve as emcee for the Respiratory Health Association’s Summer Reception.
For more than 120 years, the Respiratory Health Association (RHA) has been a leading voice in the fight for healthy lungs and clean air. Founded in 1906 to combat tuberculosis, the organization has evolved to address some of today’s most pressing respiratory health challenges, including asthma, COPD, and lung cancer. Through advocacy, research, education, and expanding access to care, RHA continues to make a meaningful difference in communities across the country.
The Summer Reception brought together supporters, healthcare professionals, advocates, and volunteers to celebrate recent victories in lung health while looking ahead to the important work still to come. One of the highlights of the evening was recognizing the dedicated volunteers who stand on the frontlines of RHA’s mission every day.
The event also featured the presentation of the 10th Annual Solovy Award for Advancement in COPD. This year’s recipient, Dr. Wassim Labaki, was honored for his contributions to advancing care and research for those living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The award is made possible through the Kathleen Hart Solovy & Jerold S. Solovy Endowment for COPD, which continues to support innovation and progress in this critical area of healthcare.
What struck me most throughout the evening was the passion in the room. Behind every research breakthrough, advocacy effort, and educational program are people committed to helping others breathe easier and live healthier lives.
It’s inspiring to see an organization with such a long history continue to push forward, creating real change for future generations. The mission remains simple yet powerful: healthy lungs for all.
