An Evening of Impact
Some conversations stay with you because of what they represent, not just what’s said, but what’s felt behind the words. That’s exactly what this recent iHeartRadio episode centered around.
As we sat down to talk about the work of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana, I was reminded how powerful it is when a community comes together to support families in their hardest moments.
On the episode, I had the chance to speak with two individuals who see that impact from very different perspectives.
Allie, the Director of Community Engagement, shared what the mission truly looks like day to day. Not just in words, but in action. Through six houses and multiple family rooms across Chicagoland, their team is providing something so essential: a place for families to stay close to their child while they receive medical care. A place to rest. A place to breathe. A place that feels like a small sense of normal in the middle of uncertainty.
And then we spoke to Matthew and hearing his story shifts everything.
After experiencing a life-altering medical emergency, his family leaned on the Ronald McDonald House in a way that many families do, but we don’t always see. While he was receiving care, his parents were given something just as important: the ability to stay near him. Not worrying about where to sleep, how to manage, or how to hold everything together from a distance.
It’s easy to think of support in big, sweeping ways. But sometimes, support looks like a warm bed. A meal. A place to sit and take a breath.
That’s what this organization provides. And it’s why nights like their annual gala matter so much.
Because behind every ticket, every conversation, every moment of that evening, there’s real impact. Families who are able to stay for as long as they need, whether that’s days, weeks, or even months. Families who don’t have to choose between being present for their child and managing the realities of travel, cost, and care.
This year’s event was a reflection of that.
A room filled with people who weren’t just there to attend, but to show up. To be part of something bigger. To invest in a mission that truly changes lives. And together, that room raised over $1.7 million.
That number is incredible but what matters more is what it represents. Time. Proximity. Support. Relief.
It means families can focus on what actually matters, their child, without the added weight of everything else.
As I left both the conversation and the event, I kept coming back to one simple thought:
We all have the ability to be part of something meaningful.
Sometimes it’s by sharing a story. Sometimes it’s by showing up. And sometimes, it’s by supporting the people and organizations who are doing the work every single day.
This episode was a reminder of that. And a reminder that even in life’s most difficult seasons, there are places, and people, who make sure no one has to walk through it alone.
