The Couch Brothers Take a Seat in Our August Fete Feature
Sometimes the best things in life start without a perfect plan. For Matt and Kris, better known as The Couch Brothers, a side hustle during an uncertain time became an opportunity neither of them expected. Their story is one of taking a chance, learning as you go, and seeing just how far an unexpected idea can take you.
Our August 2026 Who’s With Whit column in Fete Lifestyle Magazine shares more about Matt and Kris and the unexpected path that brought their business to life. Both are full-time firefighter-paramedics who took a chance on something completely new when they began buying and flipping couches during the pandemic. What started as a way to make some extra money continued to grow as they realized they had found something worth pursuing. Eventually, that small side hustle became a furniture business with its own showroom and warehouse, all while Matt and Kris continued serving their community through their careers as first responders.
At the heart of The Couch Brothers is something Matt and Kris already knew well: helping people. Their careers as firefighter-paramedics taught them to listen, communicate, and understand what someone needs. Today, they bring those same values to customers looking for furniture that fits their homes and the lives they are building inside them.
What I love about their story is that neither of them entered this with years of furniture experience or a carefully mapped-out plan. They saw an opportunity, took a chance, and learned along the way. During a time with so much uncertainty, Matt and Kris found a way to build something that continued opening new doors.
Matt and Kris are a great reminder of what can happen when you stay open to the unexpected. Sometimes the beginning of something meaningful looks a lot smaller than you imagined. You just have to be willing to see where it can go.
