Turning Pain into Progress

There is a moment in every story when the focus shifts from what has been lost to what can still be built. My conversation with Kevin O’Connor centered on exactly that.

Kevin, of O’Connor Law Firm in Chicago, works closely with families during some of their most difficult seasons. What stood out most was not just the legal outcomes his firm achieves, but the way he helps families move forward with purpose.

Many of the people who come to Kevin are facing deep loss. While financial support is important, he shared that families are often seeking something more lasting. They want to know their loved one’s story made a difference.

That is where his work creates real impact.

Kevin has helped families turn grief into action by advocating for changes in the law. One example he shared was the creation of DJ’s Law, which came from a tragic loss but led to meaningful reform. These efforts give families a way to honor their loved ones while helping protect others in the future.

This is what level setting looks like. It’s not about changing the past. It’s about using it to shape a better future.

Kevin’s approach reminds us that even in the hardest moments, there is an opportunity to create something meaningful. When people are supported and given a voice, their stories can lead to change that reaches far beyond their own lives.

That kind of impact leaves a legacy rooted in hope.

Kevin was also featured in Fete Magazine for their special ‘Men’s Month’ edition which you can check out here. In this, he discusses his career, his influences, and what kind of impact he hopes to have on the families that he serves. To learn more about him, head to the ‘Partners’ tab on Whitneyreynolds.com
